Today we had some 1st grade mad geniuses make some hot ice! Commonly found inside hand warmers, hot ice is nothing but an exothermic reaction between water and sodium acetate. Here, one of the students watches the reaction happen:
After we were done learning about crystalline structures, we moved on to something a little more hands-on. Everybody got some polyvinyl alcohol and a little Borax, which is a time-honored recipe for slime!
